Cornyn Co-Sponsors Bill to End Administration’s Keystone Stall Tactics
WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) issued the following statement after signing on as an original co-sponsor to the North American Energy Security Act:“Building the Keystone XL will be good for the economy, good for national security, and good for Texas. This bill requires the President to decide whether or not that’s good enough for him, rather than allowing him to stall until after the election.”The proposed 1,700 mile Keystone XL pipeline would transport 700,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada and the U.S. Bakken region to U.S. refineries along the Gulf Coast. The North American Energy Security Act would require the President to decide within 60 days of enactment whether or not to allow the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Furthermore, it requires the Federal government to recognize an alternative route approved by Nebraska to avoid the Sand Hills, while not holding up construction elsewhere. A copy of the bill is attached.Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary, Armed Services and Budget Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.###
