Cornyn Cosponsors Bipartisan Bill To Fight Prescription Drug, Heroin Abuse In America
WASHINGTON – Today U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) announced he is cosponsoring the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), a bill to combat the growing epidemic of heroin and prescription drug abuse in America. Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the bill unanimously. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.
“Opioid prescription drug and heroin addiction is ripping away at the fiber of our homes and our communities in our nation. It’s destroying families, increasing crime, making our communities less safe, hurting our economy, and robbing millions of Americans of their future. That’s why this legislation is so important, and I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Whitehouse, Senator Ayotte, and Senator Portman, who have been taking the leadership role on this. “
