‘This incident does nothing to instill confidence in the American people that her department can fully and fairly conduct this investigation, and that's why a Special Counsel is needed now more than ever.’

WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement in response to media reports that former President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch met privately this week in Phoenix, Arizona:

“Secretary Clinton went out of her way to circumvent the important laws Congress passed that help guarantee the American people transparency in their government, and there is now a criminal investigation ongoing. In light of the apparent conflicts of interest, I have called repeatedly on Attorney General Lynch to appoint a Special Counsel to ensure the investigation is as far from politics as possible.

Senator Cornyn called on Attorney General Lynch to appoint a special counsel to investigate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server in September of 2015, and earlier this year questioned AG Lynch on the matter.
