‘Rather than leave the families dangling here for ten days, I hope if he does veto, he does it promptly and so the Senate and the House can take up a vote on a veto override, which I’m confident we will do.’

WASHINGTON – Today during a press conference U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) discussed the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, legislation the President has threatened to veto that passed both the Senate and House unanimously. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video of his speech can be found here.

“Last night the Senate sent to the President the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, which passed by unanimous consent in the Senate and passed by unanimous vote of the House of Representatives last Friday.”

“Rather than leave the families dangling here for ten days, I hope if he does veto, he does it promptly and so the Senate and the House can take up a vote on a veto override, which I’m confident we will do. So I would hope the President would keep those families first and foremost in his mind in deciding what he does now with this legislation.”
