U.S. Senator John Cornyn, a member of the Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, made the following statement Wednesday following the fourth cloture vote on the nomination of Miguel Estrada, the President’s nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit:"The obstruction continues. Forty four Democrats are blocking the will of a majority of the Senate and preventing a highly qualified judicial nominee from even having a vote. "This obstructionism is wrong; it is unbecoming of the Senate and unfair to this, and all future nominees to the federal bench. Nominees deserve a vote, not obstruction by special interests. "Justice Priscilla Owen of Texas will be on the Senate floor soon. I hope my colleagues won’t use similar tactics against this fine nominee.”
