Growers Need More Than A Down Payment

Sen. Cornyn made the following statement Friday regarding Mexico’s obligations under the 1944 Water Treaty: “After years of inaction on the water crisis facing Texas agriculture, it is disappointing to see the inadequate proposal being floated by Mexico. Though it addresses a portion of this year’s deliveries, future payments on the water debt are not addressed. “Agriculture is already a risky industry and growers need more than a mere down payment and the broken promises of the past. What growers need – but have yet to receive – is a definitive timetable for the repayment of previous years’ obligations, and relative certainty for future irrigation development.”
