Miguel Estrada Deserves Better
U.S. Senator John Cornyn, a member of the Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, made the following statement Tuesday following the cloture vote on the nomination of Miguel Estrada, the President’s nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit:"Once again, forty five Democrats raised their hands to support a filibuster against Miguel Estrada, a nominee with the American Bar Association’s unanimous highest rating. Forty five Democrats continue to obstruct on behalf of special interests, blocking a vote that will surely pass with a bipartisan majority of the Senate."This obstructionism is wrong; it is unbecoming of the Senate and unfair to this, and all future nominees to the federal bench – including Justice Priscilla Owen of Texas. This dangerous precedent must end now. Miguel Estrada deserves a vote, not partisan obstruction and unwarranted political games.”
