WASHINGTON– U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today chaired a Judiciary Committee hearing for Justice Mark Pittman and Sean Jordan, who have been nominated to the Northern and Eastern District Courts of Texas, respectively.  Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s opening remarks are below, and video can be found here.

“Today, we’ll hear from two outstanding nominees for the judiciary from Texas: Justice Mark Pittman and Sean Jordan. President Trump nominated both of these gentlemen in January of this year, along with a 3rd District court nominee, Wes Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix had a hearing in 2016 when he was nominated by President Obama, so he doesn’t need another one.”

“But all three of these nominees are the product of the Texas Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee, and I commend the president for re-nominating Mr. Hendrix and moving forward with the nominations of Justice Pittman and Mr. Jordan.”

“Just last week, the president also nominated Jason Pulliam, a former state court judge and Marine lawyer, for a district court vacancy in San Antonio, and I look forward to Mr. Pulliam appearing before the Judiciary Committee for a hearing in the next few weeks.”

“We still have a few more vacancies in our federal district courts in Texas and I’m confident we’ll be hearing more from the White House shortly, and that a few more top-notch lawyers and judges in Texas will be on their way to joining the federal judiciary. But for today, I’m glad that we’re moving forward with Justice Pittman’s and Mr. Jordan’s nominations.”
