‘Everybody in the Republican Conference wants to get to yes.’

WASHINGTON – Today U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) appeared on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom to discuss the Senate’s version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Excerpts from his appearance are below, and video can be found here

“Well, we're getting very close. The difference between the tax negotiations and the healthcare negotiations is I think everybody in the Republican Conference wants to get to yes.”

“We have to get it done because we need the economy to grow again, we need to get middle-class taxpayers some additional take-home pay and improve their standard of living, and we need to get competitive in a global economy that's left the United States behind when it comes to investment and jobs being created overseas.”

“What Senator Johnson's talking about is the top 2% of pass-throughs. We're trying to work with him to get him to yes. But this is not a bill that's primarily designed to benefit the wealthy and the large businesses. This is designed to help middle-income taxpayers get the economy growing again and bring down the tax burden across all tax brackets.”

“I'm very optimistic that working in good faith we all want to get everybody to yes and get this done."
