Spring Break 2019

In: The Lonestar Weekly   Posted 03/22/2019

As the saying goes, there’s no place like home. During this week's state work period, I was fortunate to visit with Texans throughout our great state. Here are a few highlights:
On Monday, I joined members of the San Antonio delegation to break ground on a new federal courthouse. This groundbreaking isn’t just the start of a new courthouse – but a legacy of safety, community, and justice for generations.
I visited with members of the state legislature on Tuesday in Austin to get an update on the legislative session and discuss ways we can keep working together on behalf of Texans.
In Sarita on Wednesday, I joined the family of fallen Border Patrol Agent Javier Vega, Jr. to participate in the renaming ceremony for the checkpoint where he was assigned. Javier was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran who was killed while protecting his family from two armed robbers.
I'm grateful to my colleagues Sen. Ted Cruz, Reps. Filemon Vela, Michael McCaul, and John Carter for joining with me to get Agent Vega’s death reclassified so his wife and children would receive the benefits they’re due through his service to his country.
May the Javier Vega, Jr. Border Patrol Checkpoint stand as a reminder of his sacrifice and selflessness.

Now that the week is over, it's back to Washington to keep fighting for Texans.
See y'all on down the trail!
