Sen. Cornyn: No Need For So-Called Fairness Doctrine
WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, issued the following statement today regarding passage of the amendment silencing the so-called Fairness Doctrine: “I applaud my Senate colleagues for coming together in a bipartisan fashion to silence the so-called Fairness Doctrine. We must remember that the right to free speech is more than the right to be able to speak, it is the right to say what you want. We live in a time in which numerous outlets have given untold millions the ability to express themselves on any issue, to any crowd. There is no need to impose the so-called “fairness doctrine” at this time.” Sen. Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary and Budget Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge. -30-
