Sen. Cornyn Statement On President Obama’s Decision To Send Additional Troops Into Afghanistan
WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, made the following statement regarding the President’s decision to send additional troops into Afghanistan. “I support President Obama’s decision to send additional troops into Afghanistan to bring peace and stability to an extremely volatile country and region. “Military experts and our commanders on the ground there have said they need more troops to ensure that Afghanistan never again becomes a safe haven for terrorists to plan attacks on our land and our people. I join the President in his commitment to give them all the resources they need to do their jobs and succeed in the fight against terrorism. “The challenges presented by Afghanistan are complex, but yesterday’s announcement was a step forward. I appreciate the Administration’s ongoing efforts to conduct a strategic review of our mission in Afghanistan. I look forward to hearing the results of that review and learning how Congress can continue to support our troops.” Sen. Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary and Budget Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge. -30-
