U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, made the following statement on Wednesday regarding the ratification by the Senate of the Moscow Treaty on Strategic Offensive Reductions:"The vote in the Senate today affirmed the Bush administration’s commitment to reducing offensive strategic weapons around the world. I applaud this diplomatic success, and that of the Russians, in reducing the international stockpile of nuclear weapons. "Although we must maintain a level of security that will allow us to protect our nation and our allies, I’m certain that this will be only the first step in the long-term goal of diminishing nuclear arsenals around the world.”
