en copatrocinador original de <em>la Ley de Protecci&oacute; n<\/em>en abril de 2019<em>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Adem&aacute;s de todos los temores de salud que enfrentamos ahora mismo, los tejanos no deber&iacute;an tener miedo de que se les niegue el acceso a un seguro de salud asequible debido a una condici&oacute;n preexistente&rdquo;<\/em>, dijo el senador Cornyn.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>&ldquo;A pesar de los mejores esfuerzos de los dem&oacute;cratas para convencerme de lo contrario, estoy comprometido a asegurar que ning&uacute;n tejano quede sin cobertura debido a una condici&oacute;n preexistente&rdquo;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Antecedentes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>La<em>Ley de Protecci&oacute;n<\/em>modifica la<em>Ley de Portabilidad y Responsabilidad de Seguros M&eacute;dicos (HIPAA<\/em>) para:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Garantizar la disponibilidad de cobertura de seguro m&eacute;dico en el mercado individual o colectivo, independientemente de las condiciones preexistentes;<\/li>\n<li>Prohibir la discriminaci&oacute;n contra los pacientes basada en el estado de salud, incluida la prohibici&oacute;n de aumentar las primas para los pacientes debido a condiciones preexistentes;
