Cornyn Hosts Secretary Of Navy, Tours Facilities In Corpus, Ingleside, Kingsville
CORPUS CHRISTI – U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, hosted the Secretary of the Navy, Gordon England, Wednesday at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Naval Air Station Kingsville and Naval Station Ingleside."I’m pleased that Sec. England was able to see first hand the important role these South Texas Navy facilities play in our national security,” Cornyn said. “It was a good opportunity to update Sec. England on the strong commitment of these facilities to joint operations as the military transforms for the challenges of the 21st Century, and I was encouraged by what they have in store in this effort.” Cornyn and England toured the Navy facilities in Corpus Christi, Kingsville and Ingleside. While there, they met with Navy officials and discussed the importance of these facilities for our military preparedness and the Texas economy. Cornyn will be in San Antonio on Thursday to tour Randolph Air Force Base as part of his ongoing efforts to highlight the importance of the Texas military installations and emphasize jointness in military operations. At Randolph, he will meet with Gen. Donald G. Cook, the commander of the Air Education and Training Command, which is headquartered at Randolph AFB. Gen. Cook, the highest ranking uniformed official in Texas, is responsible for a command that includes 13 bases, 66,000 active duty members and 15,000 civilians.At the end of this week, Sen. Cornyn will have visited 14 of the 17 military installations in Texas.
