Reasonable Exploration
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Budget Committee, made the following statement Wednesday regarding the vote on the Boxer amendment to the Budget Resolution:"I believe it’s imperative for us to support reasonable exploration of ANWR, and I am troubled about this latest attempt to slow domestic exploration, especially at a time when foreign oil supplies are so unstable. Domestic oil reserves in ANWR will allow us a measure of energy independence from nations where we import our oil, particularly from the troubled Middle East."At a time when we import 60 percent of our oil, and gas prices are spiking through the roof, it’s more important than ever to have an adequate energy supply for our country. It’s not just a matter of national security, it’s also important in terms of quality of life and the ability of consumers to provide for their families.” the Boxer amendment is an attempt to prevent the opening of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to domestic energy exploration. The amendment passed 52-48. Sen. Cornyn voted against the amendment.
