Cornyn Touts Tax Reform Benefits in North Texas, El Paso, Helotes
WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) highlighted the impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in North Texas, El Paso, and Helotes on the Senate floor yesterday and today. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video of his remarks can be found here and here.
On P&P Plumbing in Cleburne, Texas:
“The positive gains from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are real and undeniable. Recently, my office heard from one of my constituents by the name of Judy Patton. Judy lives in Cleburne, Texas roughly an hour from Dallas down U.S. Highway 67. Judy owns a plumbing company called P&P. She said that her plumbing company will be giving both raises and bonuses to all of its employees this year because of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.”
“Judy…we're thrilled you have decided to pay the savings forward to other folks in the Cleburne area.”
On F-Wave in Burleson, Texas:
“The immediate consequences of the bill have been transformative.”
“My constituents in Texas know as well as anyone. Just ask a man by the name of Scott McDonald who called my office last week. Scott owns a residential roofing company in Burleson – that’s near Dallas. It's called F-Wave. Its mission is to create the best roofing shingle the world has ever seen. Period.”
“He said his 47 employees are really feeling the positive impact in their paychecks. He said, ‘There are a lot of happy people around here.’ People are happy because of the reduced tax rates. Now that the IRS has updated its withholding tables, people saw in February the first boost in their take-home pay they've seen in a long, long time. Scott also said that ‘the positive climate has created a lot of incentive’ for his company ‘to invest and grow.’”
“He's looking to hand out bonuses when the company's fiscal year ends at the end of this month and he's hoping that a new facility the company is building will create jobs for as many as 500 people.”
On El Paso Electric in El Paso, Texas:
“In west Texas, El Paso Electric has just announced homeowners will get new refunds on their electric bills due to the lower tax rate. That is, seniors, people on fixed incomes, will actually see their utility bills go down because of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.”
On Coffee Shops in Helotes, Texas:
“In Helotes, which is right outside of San Antonio, …Jeff and Mary Marsh, the owner of two coffee shops are particularly thrilled. They’re passing along the tax savings directly to their staff of 11 employees in the form of increased hourly wages and benefits packages and bonus programs. And they hope to upgrade their systems and equipment and expand with a new location, too.”
