Cornyn Touts Border Security Priorities in Senate’s One Big Beautiful Bill

June 13, 2025

AUSTIN – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today released the following statement on the border security funding included in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s legislative text for the Senate’s version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act:

“The Senate’s One Big Beautiful Bill will reverse Biden’s disastrous, manmade crisis at our southern border and restore law and order, along with reimbursing Texas for costs incurred from Operation Lone Star due to the Biden administration’s dereliction of duty,” said Sen Cornyn. “This legislation will fulfill the promises President Trump made on the campaign trail and help ensure our border is secure, our communities are safe, and the American people come first.”

Background:

The Senate Judiciary Committee’s legislative text for the Senate’s version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act contains the following border security funding, including provisions championed by Sen. Cornyn:

  • Nearly $30 billion to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for hiring, retention and recruitment, training, fleet modernization, and Victims Of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office support;
  • $750 million for Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers – which foster greater collaboration between federal, state, and local level law enforcement officers and international partners – including $465 million to modernize and upgrade existing facilities and $285 million to support training for new U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel and law enforcement agencies supporting DHS;
  • More than $3 billion to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to support The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program and Office of Community Oriented Policing (COPS), both of which Sen. Cornyn has long supported and have resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars for Texas law enforcement; and
  • $3.5 billion to be combined with $10 billion from the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs’ legislative text to total $13.5 billion to reimburse states, including Texas, for border security costs incurred as a result of former Pres. Biden’s dereliction of duty.
