Cornyn on Gaza Peace Deal: ‘Extraordinary’ Leadership by Pres. Trump

October 15, 2025

I can't think of a single President who… could have accomplished something like this before, but Trump has.

For this conflict to be truly over, each and every one of the conditions laid out in President Trump's 20-point peace deal must be implemented by both sides.

If President Trump is successful in ultimately bringing a lasting peace to the region, it will be one of the most significant diplomatic and foreign policy accomplishments in memory.

WASHINGTON – Today on the floor, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) discussed Hamas’ recent return of hostages to their families in Israel and commended President Trump’s extraordinary leadership in negotiating an end to the ongoing war and his efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.

“After more than two years of bloodshed, 20 living hostages and the remains of at least seven deceased hostages were recently returned to their families in Israel by Hamas.”

“Videos of the tearful reunions circulating on social media show the immense joy and relief felt by the families who have been suffering through the unthinkable and wondering if they will ever see their loved ones again.”

“Behind all this extraordinary story is the leadership of President Trump in negotiating an end to this war that’s lasted two years.”

“I can’t think of a single President who, through a combination of carrots and sticks, could have accomplished something like this before, but Trump has, and he deserves the credit.”

“For this conflict to be truly over, each and every one of the conditions laid out in President Trump’s 20-point peace deal must be implemented by both sides.”

“Hamas cannot remain in control if we are to have peace.”

“The return of the 20 living hostages is no small feat, and it’s something to be celebrated.”

“If President Trump is successful in ultimately bringing a lasting peace to the region, it will be one of the most significant diplomatic and foreign policy accomplishments in memory.”
