WASHINGTON— Following Hurricane Hanna’s landfall in South Texas this weekend, U.S. Senator John Cornyn announced that advancements for two flood control projects for the Rio Grande Valley which he advocated for have been included in America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2020. He worked to secure Congressional action for these projects after touring the Raymondville Drain and other local flood control projects and meeting with local experts about their needs last fall.
“Although many Texans don’t have to think about these projects day to day, the importance of our flood control infrastructure becomes crystal clear every time a big storm hits,” said Sen. Cornyn. “I’m proud to have advocated for these projects to keep the Rio Grande Valley safe, and I will continue to keep in close touch with local experts to help advance them.”
America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2020 includes these two provisions for the Rio Grande Valley:
1. Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) Watershed Assessment: This provision will require completion of the review of the LRGV Watershed Assessment to determine problems, needs, and opportunities within the LRGV.
2. Raymondville Drain Flood Control Project: This provision will expedite completion of the decision document for the Raymondville Drain, Lower Rio Grande Basin flood risk management project.
