Cornyn Statement on Impact of Democrats’ DHS Shutdown on Texas Travelers, National Security
March 10, 2026
WASHINGTON – In light of recent acts of Islamic terrorism, including in Austin last month, and as Texas students and families gear up for spring break travel, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today blasted congressional Democrats for blocking the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill, which affects the department’s ability to keep Americans safe and has resulted in Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees working without pay and hours-long wait times for TSA screenings at Texas airports:
“For more than three weeks, Democrats have refused to fund DHS unless Republicans bend the knee to their radical, offensive wish list of changes to how the men and women of Immigration and Customs Enforcement defend and protect our homeland,” said Sen. Cornyn. “At a time when spring break travel is spiking, damaging weather events are more likely, and terroristic threats are on the rise, it is shameful that Democrats have put Americans in this position once again to appease their progressive base, and I urge them to stop this charade and advance this critical funding.”
