WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today met with The University of Texas at Tyler’s (UT Tyler) President Dr. Julie Philley to discuss how the Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Program that is part of the Cornyn-backed Working Families Tax Cuts Act will benefit the rural communities that UT Health East Texas serves. See photo attached and below.

The Trump administration recently allocated $281,319,361 for Texas from the RHT Program, the most of any state. Last month, Sen. Cornyn and Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) led a letter with members of the Texas congressional delegation to Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Dr. Mehmet Oz, urging him to prioritize funding for the State of Texas. Sen. Cornyn also released a statement in support of Texas’ application in November.

The Working Families Tax Cuts Act, or One Big Beautiful Bill Act, now law, established the RHT Program at CMS to strengthen access to health care and modernize health systems in rural areas by allocating $50 billion for the program over a period of five years. States were required to apply for funding. More information about the RHT Program can be found here.
