March 24, 2026
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement on the announcement that American Dennis Coyle was released from wrongful detention by the Taliban in Afghanistan:
“Thanks to the tireless work by President Trump and Secretary Rubio, American Dennis Coyle is finally free after more than a year of wrongful detention by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Dennis’ return is excellent news for his family, who I was pleased to meet with earlier this month, and all those in America and around the world standing for freedom and due process. I’m grateful for the Trump Administration’s continued efforts to end the inhumane, terroristic practice of hostage diplomacy.”
Background:
Earlier this month, Sen. Cornyn met with Dennis Coyle’s sisters, one of whom is a Texan, to discuss their joint efforts with the U.S. Department of State to bring Dennis home.
