April 20, 2026

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm President Trump’s nomination of Andrew Davis to be a U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Texas – Austin Division:

“The Senate is continuing to confirm President Trump’s judicial nominees at a record pace with today’s confirmation of Andrew Davis to serve as a federal judge in Austin,” said Sen. Cornyn. “I was proud to join Senator Cruz in recommending Mr. Davis for this role given his impressive career in the legal field, and I look forward to seeing how he will serve Texans on the federal bench in Austin.”

Sens. Cornyn and Ted Cruz (R-TX) recommended Andrew Davis to President Trump following an extensive review and interview process of the candidate pool by the bipartisan Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee (FJEC). The Senators established the FJEC, a bipartisan panel of leading attorneys in Texas, to help identify the most qualified candidates to fill judicial vacancies. The panel reviewed applications, interviewed candidates, and made recommendations to the Senators, who interviewed individuals before making their recommendations to the President.

Andrew Davis is currently a partner at Lehotsky Keller Cohn LLP in Austin. Davis previously served as Chief Counsel to Sen. Cruz on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Prior to serving Sen. Cruz, he served as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Office of the Attorney General of Texas. As an Assistant Solicitor General, Davis both defended Texas and its agencies in appeals across the state and challenged local ordinances that harmed Texas businesses. Davis previously practiced law as a trial and appellate litigator at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Washington D.C. After graduating from Columbia Law School, Davis served as a judicial clerk for Judge Reena Raggi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Judge Sidney Fitzwater of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
