Cornyn Commemorates Korean Liberation Day

August 14, 2020

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today wished Korean Americans living in Texas a Happy Liberation Day. Liberation Day falls on August 15th, the day the Republic of Korea was formed three years after being liberated from Japanese occupation by Allied forces in 1945. Video of his remarks can be found here.

“On this day 72 years ago, Korea emerged as a new player on the world stage, forming their own system of government after they were liberated from Japanese occupation,” said Sen. Cornyn. “This day is about restoring light to Korea after those dark times. I’m proud to see that light still shining brightly in the Republic of Korea all these years later.”
